The Famous Nobodies: Esta Miller

Hello folks. Today we have the last installment of The Famous Nobodies. I have no idea why it took me so long to post this. Maybe because I was too busy watching youtube videos about bacon.

Past episodes of The Famous Nobodies:

Sir Shawn Barry Graber IV, Junior, Esquire

Verlyn Clark Glenn

Today we are interviewing the one, the only, Esta Miller! Lets begin.

Emily Smucker: What is your full name?

Esta Faye Miller: Esta Faye Miller. I love my name.

ES: How many years have you roamed the earth?

EFM: 22, or 23 if you count when Mom roamed the earth with me inside her.

ES: What was a recent awkward moment you found yourself in?

EFM: Oh my. So many. But all to scandalous for the public readership. Remember, I work at a public health clinic. *The rest of this paragraph has been removed due to its mature content*

ES: Who do you Facebook stalk and secretly wish you could meet?

EFM: Hm, I don’t spend much time stalking people on Facebook.

Fur real? What is happening to the youth of America? I have asked this question in all three interviews and have not gotten one scandalous answer. Perhaps I should write a blog post about all the people I Facebook stalk and secretly wish I could meet.

Just a random picture to remind you all of why you should be stalking Esta on Facebook.

ES: What was the most interesting dream you ever had?

EFM: Oh my. There was the one I had when I was 8 in which I dreamed I burned the house down with a tea bag. Or the one when I got drunk in Ireland and did bad things and my friend Deron had to come over from the States and rescue my reputation, wearing his straw cowboy hat. Or the one where I kissed my (then) ex-boyfriend and he got so furious because we were supposed to be respectable Mennonites and follow “I kissed Dating Goodbye.”

Esta and her (then) ex-boyfriend who she kissed in the dream. Her (then) ex-boyfriend is now her (now) (again) boyfriend. Just a random tip for interviewers– the times are constantly changing. Be sure to post interviews as soon as you get them, instead of watching bacon videos, because celebrities are always breaking up and getting back together.

ES: Do you own a purple shirt with Justin Bieber’s face on it?

EFM: I do. It is glittery and very tight and has Justin B’s face surrounded by a heart.

I see where this is going…

ES: If I gave you an elephant where would you hide it?

EFM: I wouldn’t. I would take it back to Africa and let it go free, cause people would make a documentary about me and maybe give me the nobel peace prize.

ES: All those fraud cases against your brother, are they true?

EFM: Probably. Right now he is hiking through Mexico to Belize, so they must be. But the one about him lip locking with Janessa Tice in the EBI library is totally false. ( You are welcome, Jon)

ES: Do you have any good fashion/style tips for my readers?

EFM: If you find something you like, but can’t wear for conscience sake, and it is under $5, buy it for your honeymoon (my mom taught me that one). Also, burn anything trendy in your closet.

ES: What was your lucky break?

EFM: Honestly? That Jesus didn’t let me get away with pretending I didn’t have any problems. I’m so much happier now that I admit I have lots.

Also, that my profs never caught on how little I really knew.

ES: What keeps you awake at night?

EFM: Emergency medical calls.  Parties.  Guarding at the jail. Eating too much mac and cheese. Worries about being a bad kisser.

A picture of Esta eating. Just because. Is that bacon in the sandwich?

ES: What was a long-ago awkward moment you found yourself in?

EFM: When my slip fell off in a crowded subway station and got caught up in my trendy heels and I stood for some time trying to untangle it while a bunch of people laughed at me.

ES: What kind of people do you dislike?

EFM: People who think they have all the answers. People who are prejudice and ignorant. People who chase trends and popularity and totally miss life. People who like Nickelback.

ES: If you had to have on inanimate object attached to your hand for a month, what would it be?

EFM: My tea mug. For sure.

Looks like you have that object attached to both hands, my dear.

ES: Give a good closing-worthy piece of advice.

EFM: Don’t run away from brokenness–whether it in others, yourself, or the world. You will miss lots of stories, joy, and awkward moments.

And eat lots of garlic while you are single.

That concludes my interview with Esta Miller, and my three-part series called “The Famous Nobodies.” Coming soon:

People I Facebook Stalk and Secretly Wish I could Meet (Maybe)

Guest Post: Life in Thailand (By my crazy-awesome sister Jenny)

Fashion Experiment

For better or for worse, I love fashion.

Also, I don’t like spending money.

Have you ever noticed that there are no fashion blogs where the writers don’t spend money? Well, maybe there are. If so I haven’t seen them.

So I started my own, idontbuyclothes.wordpress.com. I’m planning to post pictures of my outfits for 30 days, along with tips for spending no money on clothes.

Check it out!

(Yes, I am too lazy right now to put in a real link)

Sisters and also, like, Fashion

Fashion bloggers always upload pictures of themselves wearing whatever they wore that day.

Then they talk about it.

You know, what inspired it, where they got the clothes, how much the clothes cost, etc .

This is what I wore to work today.

Aka, to help my dad teach school.

Aka, to answer flags and score tests and drink tea. It was a lovely day.

On the way home I had an idea. I could get Jenny to take pictures of me, and I could post them on my blog like I was a real fashion blogger.

THEN I got another brilliant idea. We could go down by the river to take pictures. And we could have tea. And play tag. And stuff.

Yes, this is what Oregon looks like in the winter when it is not raining. Be envious.

There was one problem with the outing that Jenny and I planned: We couldn’t find Mom’s camera to use. So instead we asked Amy to join us.

You won’t see her in any of the pictures. She took them all.

Aren’t they gorgeous?

I am in love with this picture of Jenny. So beautiful.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot.

I am wearing….

A black denim skirt I got at goodwill or something years and years ago when mom still bought my clothes. It is long and had arabic writing on the tag so I’m pretty sure it came from some Arab land and that is why it is so long and modest.

Both my pink t-shirt and pink scarf came from Amy. I did not borrow them, she gave them to me. I am not sure why she decided to give up the t-shirt. But she gave me the scarf because once she tried to wear it and it was so big and clunky and awkward looking that Jenny and I laughed at her.

I thought it might be weird to wear a scarf and a shirt that almost-but-not-totally matched but then I remembered that the Arab fashionistas do that all the time. So I guess I have a very Arab inspired outfit. There you can see my socks which sort-of but don’t really match too. And my shoes. I borrowed them from Jenny since I couldn’t find any of my shoes and I was tired of borrowing from Amy all the time.

Jenny said, “actually those are Amy’s shoes. I borrowed them from here.”

It is nice to have the same shoe size as your sisters. Although those shoes are actually pretty ugly. I am not a big fan of brown or tan things.

The only part of that outfit that I actually spent any money on is the sweater.

It cost $1.50. I got it at a cute little thrift store in downtown Harrisonburg on the day that sweaters were half off.

Don’t you think it adds a nice touch? Retro, fifty’s thing, and also modern and trendy because horizontal black and white stripes are so in right now.

This is how I am: I love fashion, and I study fashion, and thus I notice Arab style and what is trendy right now and what adds a 50’s vibe.

But.

I still get dressed in the morning by just throwing something on.

Seriously.

Why on earth would you waste time choosing something to wear when you could just throw something on and have extra time to spend with your sisters?

Old Town, New City

Check out how Polish I look.

My shoes are still wrong, though.

They should look like this.

We spent the day in Warsaw. I felt very urban. I was planning to post pictures of graffiti and public transportation and bundled up fashionable ladies and the other urban things I encountered today, but alas, I have a very slow internet connection and it just isn’t worth it.

We went to a pottery shop and a museum. They were sort of boring but I felt bad thinking that they were boring because I got the feeling that if I were a cultured urban woman I would love them.

Then, after the pottery and the museum, we went to the real attraction of Warsaw. The old town.

The outside is this big wall of brick that looks all castle-like. The inside is full of these tall houses squished together, and cobblestone streets. It reminds me of the days when I studied world history, and I learned that in the middle ages it was the towns that defied feudalism and developed a middle class in the western world.

If a peasant ran away from the village and wasn’t caught for a year and a day, he would become free. Then he could go to a town and be a shoemaker or something.

The towns had big strong walls, so if people wanted to make their houses bigger they had to make them taller, not wider. There was a limit to how wide the town could be.

Hence, the beautiful walls and tall houses that still exist today.

I wanted to tour the palace. Uncle John said it would be boring. Boring! I could stand in one place and look for hours without getting bored.

Even fast food restaurants are beautiful in Old Town.

How could I have been so tired in that museum? I don’t mind walking now. I don’t mind the cold anymore. But that may be because my kind cousin Austin gave me his hat to wear.

A hat can make a big difference.

We went to pizza hut, where I took a picture that I will show as a parting shot. It is of my mom and my dad. It is not posed. For some reason I love this picture. I don’t know why. Maybe because it is a picture of real parents instead of posed parents.

Well never mind. It won’t upload. Girrrrrrr

(FYI, all pictures in this post were taken by me. I should start giving photo credits more often. The picture of the airplane a few posts back was gotten from google images but someone commented thinking I had taken it. Oops. I only wish I was such a great photographer.
