First Impressions

Daily writing prompt
What’s the first impression you want to give people?

I’ve always had a desire to be viewed as “interesting.” I’d like to think that has faded with time, since “main character syndrome” is a little cringe, especially when you’re in your 30s. But once I casually mentioned my weirdness to someone I’d recently met, and they kindly said “you’re not weird!” and I got a little offended. So the core desire to be interesting is still there.

I used to think being “sweet” was the most boring personality trait imaginable, but now I take it as a compliment. I’d like to leave a first impression of being kind, a good listener, and someone who has interesting ideas but doesn’t dominate the conversation.

I hope you enjoyed this short-and-sweet little blog post answering WordPress’s daily writing prompt. My life has been really crazy the last month, with lots of travel and another big move. I have lots of blogs planned but I’m feeling snowed under, so I thought I’d do something quick and easy for fun.

Toodle-oo!

  3. I also strongly desired people to perceive me as interesting when I was younger. And I also thought that “sweet” was the most boring character trait. But I heard “Be interested, not interesting,” at a job training many years. That really stuck with me. Now I would be thrilled for someone to call me sweet. A couple of weeks ago, at another job training, we were instructed to choose three character traits that we wanted people to associate with us. I chose honest, kind, and fair (I’m an attorney, so these seemed like the most important traits in this career.)
