Please Read This If You Are Mom or Amy

Ben and I had a flight delayed four hours and couldn’t seem to connect to wifi anywhere and missed our flight to Thailand and can’t get another flight until tomorrow afternoon.

Also, every single messaging service seems to be blocked. No gmail, no Facebook…so now I’m trying a blog post out of desperation cause I just want to go to bed.

So yes, if you’re reading this, Ben and I are fine.

Amy, we get in at four thirty tomorrow.

Everyone else, stay tuned for more interesting travel updates coming soon.

  1. Emily! So glad to know you’re ok! I’ll pick you up tomorrow. And if you have a way you should try to connect with Ben’s friend Felicia who is in kunming so you don’t just have to sit around bored all day.

You should have seen the frantic measures we were going through to let you know. We tried and tried and TRIED to connect to the Internet and it didn’t seem to work. Finally Ben was like, “it’s so weird, I can connect to ESPN just fine.”
I then searched for a list of websites banned in China. Gmail. Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. Yahoo mail. Even blogger. (We thought about leaving a comment on your blog.)
My blog only half loaded but WordPress didn’t seem to be on the banned list, so I composed a blog post while Ben started messaging his fantasy football league members through ESPN.
(Yes, you were this close to getting a call from Preston or Dan telling you we were safe and could you please inform Amy of our arrival time.)
And then the blog post posted and there was great rejoicing and we collapsed with gales of laughter at our predicament.

      1. Well, this will be a story for the grandchildren. And I am so glad you were laughing because I was picturing other reactions, especially with your and Ben’s different styles of dealing with obstacles, just saying.

Oh man it is so lovely to chat with you and I wish I could pour out the whole story right now. Well. Let’s just say that laughter diffuses strained and tired relationship conflicts, and we chose laughter 😂

      3. Yes, this is balm for my soul to connect again. How soon do you leave again? [since I have a terrible time figuring out time zone stuff.] And most importantly HAVE YOU HAD TEA???
        {I think this is going to post out of order but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter, I’d say}

Yes I have had lots and lots of tea! This hotel room doesn’t have much, but it DOES have a hot pot and two mugs and a mostly-empty tin of green tea.

It is 8:11 am now, and our flight leaves at 4 pm. It is Wednesday.

  3. Are you still at the airport or did you get a motel?

We got a motel! I was worried they’d think Ben and I were married and just give us one bed, so I was relieved to walk into the room and find two beds. The relief was short-lived, however, when we noticed that the wall of the bathroom was made of glass. Lol. What the bunnyslipper.

      1. Laughing so hard, Emily. Goodness, it’s good to hear from you. Amid all the anxiety I thought to myself, “If she’s in China, she’ll find a way to have tea, and then everything will be ok.”

  4. Hi Amy. I’m guessing she’s at a motel and sound asleep. Wish there was a way to contact Ben.

I am so glad you are ok. We knew Amy was looking for company to get in. That would have been nerve wracking and then not being able to let anyone know. Scary. I’m eager to hear your China stories. Kimberly’s Mom
